About the Coalition

Join the Coalition

Join businesses across the state in promoting a healthy workforce

Tobacco-Free Maine Works is a coalition of Maine business leaders who are dedicated to reducing youth tobacco use in order to promote a healthy workforce for the future.

Our goal: Reduce youth tobacco use to help break the cycle of addiction and disease in our communities and promote a healthy workforce for the future.

Tobacco use makes employees sicker, leading to more days out and higher health care costs. Those extra costs in an already challenging labor market could push some Maine businesses to the breaking point.

Acting now to reduce youth tobacco use will help prevent additional health care costs down the line once young people enter the workforce. That's why we support solutions like ending the sale of flavored tobacco products that lure kids into becoming life-long tobacco users.

Smoking drains nearly $1.5 billion out of Maine’s economy annually due to health care costs and lost productivity.

Without a stable, healthy workforce, businesses can’t reach their full potential, which means the state can’t reach its full potential.

Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States.

It claims 2,400 Mainers’ lives each year, and it’s bad for business.

Nearly 9 out of 10 smokers start smoking before they turn 18 years old.

That's why efforts to limit the access and appeal of tobacco products to young people are key to ensuring Maine has a healthy workforce for the future with better productivity and lower health care costs for Maine businesses.
